Virginia Garcia was born in 1963 and has been making pottery
since 1987. She specializes in water jars and bowls with bear paws,
usually in red, but also in black and dark plum. She is self taught
artist that has won awards at Santa Fe Indian Market and Eight Northern
Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show. She is the granddaughter of Severa Tafoya
& Cleto Tafoya, daughter of Lydia Tafoya & Santiago Garcia and the
sister of John Garcia, Tina Garcia and Greg Garcia. She says that
her favorite part of the process is the polishing. She gathers all
of her materials from the Reservation and fires all of her pottery
outdoors!

This is a highly polished hand-formed
Santa Clara red ware pot. It is in excellent condition and
was made ca. 2002. The pot is incised on the bottom "Virginia
Garcia SC/SJ" and measures 7 3/4" height x 7 1/4"
diameter.The pot is polished with a red slip over a tan clay
body. Slight scalloped fluting at flared lip from thumb impressions.
Impressed band from neck to shoulder creating a nice silhouette.

This large highly polished hand-formed
Santa Clara red ware pot is in excellent condition and was
made in November of 2002. The pot is incised on the bottom
"Virginia Garcia Santa Clara San Juan" and measures
9 3/4" height x 8 3/4" diameter. The pot is polished
with a red slip over a tan clay body. Rounded bottom with
elegant tapered sides to the top.
